DC Super Heroes Cafe Philippines | DC Cafe Manila Menu and Review

My geek husband and I finally got to dine at the first ever DC Super Heroes Cafe at SM Megamall!

Ever since news broke that there will be a DC-themed cafe here in the Philippines, my husband was so excited and immediately told me that we must be there on its opening day. Especially since it will be located at SM Megamall, which is just near where we live.

We were there the day DC Cafe opened because we had some errands to do. It was already around lunch time so we thought we should check it out and have a nice meal. We're not even surprised that the line was so long, we decided to just skip it. You know naman here in the Philippines, people flock (and patiently line up) to whatever is new–launch of a mobile phone, fast-fashion store's opening, and even restaurants and milk tea shops!

It was around 5 pm when we came back to check if the line was shorter at that time. And true enough, it is. However, when we got to the entrance, one of the staff said they ran out of food already. Bummer.

So a few weeks ago, we were finally able to go inside DC Cafe. This time, there was no line. Thank goodness.

DC Super Heroes Cafe is truly a haven for geeks and avid comic fans. Everywhere you look, it's DC and it's famous characters. 

Even their menu, the food, table napkin, everything. Unfortunately, all those come with a price... Food is somewhat expensive... But is it worth it? 🤔

Unfortunately, it took quite some time before our order arrived. We had to follow up about two to three times. Good thing we were near the TV where they're showing trailers. I even got to watch the trailer of Shazam!

So we ordered the Berry Cheesecake Smoothie and Buttermilk-Fried Chicken Wings for me, and the Cheesemeister Deluxe.

I didn't ask for their bestsellers because I wanted to choose based on the photos and the "theme". If you hadn't noticed, every food is inspired by a character. In this case, the Berry Cheesecake Smoothie obviously is Wonder Woman; the Buttermilk-Fried Chicken Wings is Nightwing; and the Cheesemeister Deluxe is Batman.

The Berry Cheesecake Smoothie is a blend of strawberries, guavas, hibiscus, and cream cheese. It's topped with mango jello, golden crystals, and orange zest. I love it because it's truly refreshing! Reminds me of four-season drinks.

At first look, their Buttermilk-Fried Chicken Wings didn't look like chicken wings at all. I even thought it was shaped like lightning, but then again it's inspired by Nightwing and not the Flash. 

Unfortunately, I didn't get a taste of buttermilk. Just plain old fried chicken with Pomodoro sauce and honey mustard. The rice pilaf was nice though.

And like the Batman fan that he is, the husband ordered the Cheesemeister Deluxe, which is inspired by Bruce Wayne aka Batman. It also comes with thick-cut fries and two sauces.

According to DC Super Heroes Cafe, it's their own take on the multiversely popular Burger from The Flash, Supergirl, Arrow, and DC's Legends of Tomorrow TV series. This burger is made up of mozzarella and cheddar-stuffed Angus patty which is served inside a brioche bun, lettuce, and their special sauce.

And of course, the DC Super Heroes Cafe experience isn't complete without shopping for official merchandise! I'm not an avid fan of DC, nor am I a comic geek. However, when I saw this Wonder Woman statue, I was really in awe at how much it resembles Gal Gadot.

I can't say I'm an avid fan because I do not know a lot, especially every single detail about her. I leave that to legit fans out there. I grew up watching Wonder Woman shows—cartoons and of course the live-action TV series which starred Lynda Carter. But the reason why I really love Wonder Woman is that for me, she's the perfect symbol of femininity.

There are a lot of merchandise to choose from—plush toys, ID laces, keychains, Herschel x DC backpacks, shirts, and a whole lot more!

THE VERDICT:

While I like the concept and love the feel of this restaurant, for me, the food is quite overpriced. For the prices, I would have eaten more delicious food at other cafes and restaurants such as Sunnies Cafe. But then again, the reason why the food is quite pricey is because of royalties. (ICYMI: a royalty is the amount of money paid to a patentee for using a certain a patent/author/composer)

So will I dine here again? Maybe. Maybe not. Depends if I have extra money to splurge. ✌
