Echo Asia Tour: Zedd Live in Manila 2018 - Cove Manila |
"How the f are you guys feeling tonight? It's good to see you guys, it's been way too long. Thank you guys for being here tonight. This is the last tour of my Asia tour." - Zedd, during the Manila leg of his Echo Asia Tour at Cove Manila.
In a world where producing electronic music is made more accessible to everyone, Zedd remains to be one of the most successful DJs of our generation.
He’s been in the industry for almost a decade now, yet people never seem to lose interest in his music!
Having multiple chart-topping hits one after another, there is no doubt why his name is almost usually at the top songs chart. Perhaps it also helped that he collaborated with amazing artists from different genres. In fact, you probably either sang or danced along to his songs including 2012’s breakout song, “Clarity” (featuring Foxes), “Stay the Night” (featuring Hayley Williams of Paramore), “I Want You To Know” (featuring Selena Gomez), “Papercut” (featuring Troye Sivan); “Stay” (featuring Alessia Cara), and his latest chart-topper, “The Middle” (featuring Maren Morris and Grey.)
It was announced late last year that Zedd was coming back to Manila for his Echo Tour 2018. The last time he was here in the Philippines was on August 8, 2015, for Ultra, along with Hardwell. It was his first solo major show ever in the country.
The Manila leg of Echo Tour 2018 was supposed to be held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. But for some undisclosed reasons, it was moved to Cove Manila, the country’s newest and Southeast Asia’s biggest Indoor Beach Club and Nightclub. It is located inside the biggest integrated resort in the Philippines— Okada Manila. Not bad at all, since the new venue is perfect for Zedd’s kind of music.
Cove Manila just opened last December 15, 2017. Although it was not my first time in Okada, it was my first time to be at Cove Manila. I’ve been to several prime nightclubs in Metro Manila, but I was surprised at what Cove Manila looked like inside. And it wasn’t named like that for nothing. The inside is like a dome that’s huge enough to accommodate up to 4,500 people. It’s modern, luxurious and very hip. It’s no wonder why it’s the new place to be for the hottest live performances and having fun.
Doors opened at 10:30 pm. Yet the place was already jampacked by people eager to watch Zedd perform live. It was 1 is when Zedd finally showed up. And despite waiting for almost 3 hours, the crowd was nowhere near tired. The night was young and the party was just starting.
It was worth the wait though, because the moment Zedd set foot on the stage, he dropped songs after songs. No breaks! The show started with “Beautiful Now” featuring Jon Bellion from his 2015 album, True Colors.
He graced the Manila crowd with his remix of popular songs like Coldplay’s “A Sky Full Of Stars”, Cardi B’s “Bodak Yellow”, Clean Bandit’s “Rather Be”, MAGIC!’s “Rude” and Kendrick Lamar’s “Humble”, to which the crowd wholeheartedly sang along to.
EDM hits from Hailee Steinfeld and Grey’s “Starving”, Tove Lo’s ”Heroes”, Calvin Harris’ “How Deep Is Your Love”, Showtek’s “Booyah” were also crowd favorites. But what surprised us the most was his remix of The White Stripe’s “Seven Nation Army”, Black Eyed Peas’ “The Time”, Daft Punk’s “One More Time” and Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” and “Thriller!” Definitely a surprise, but was loved by the audience.
Of course, the night wasn’t complete without his hits like “Follow You Down”, “Stay The Night”, “I Want You To Know”, “Stay”, and “Break Free.” And what better way to end the night than his biggest hit ever, “Clarity.” Everybody lost it when Zedd asked the crowd to sing the song out loud. And everybody did. Because why not?
