The xx - I See You Tour Live in Manila 2018 Videos:
So after surprising everyone with their third studio album called I See You in 2017, the trio then embarked on a world tour. And finally, Manila was part of it.
The night started at the World Trade Center with The xx’s first track Dangerous off their latest album.
After Crystalised, Oliver acknowledged the crowd, “Manila, it’s been a long time. I wanna stop by saying—last time we were here, we had one of the craziest shows we’ve ever had. So we’ve come here with very high expectations. But, I can tell already this is going to be a very good one. So thank you so much for being here. It means the world to us. So we’ve done something special. This next song (referring to Reunion), this is the first time we’ve played it in five years.”
As soon as Romy was done, she was immediately congratulated by Oliver through a hug, with a proud smile on his face.
At this point, both Romy and Oliver went at the edge of the center stage to greet their fans, while Jamie started to play the melodious intro of VCR in the background. Once again, fans burst into squeals.
He asked for lights as he went to say, “Wow, nice to see you all. You’ve been good. I like to say, you know, all that we could ever hope for, for people who come to our show is that this is a place where you can leave anything that is causing you pain at home at just enjoy yourself here. Maybe you meet someone attractive, maybe you make some friends… Right, yeah. More music. Sorry, more music.” Classic.
After playing Shelter, Romy and Oliver left the stage to Jamie for his cover of Loud Places. The two return just in time to play On Hold.
Then it was time for what everybody was really waiting for—Intro. I swear, everybody was either in awe or dancing along to the unique harmony that is The xx.
It was my first time to watch them live, and I was amazed at how uniquely talented (and good at it) all three of them are. Romy, her soothing voice and her astonishing electric guitar leads; Oliver, with how his voice perfectly blends with Romy’s; and Jamie, the multi-instrumentalist. All those, plus a burst of colors onstage and excited fans made the five years of wait more than worth it.
Before proceeding with their last song, the three was once again overwhelmed and speechless but smiling, while looking at the screaming and applauding audience. It was probably a good 30 seconds of that when Romy finally spoke, “Wow, Manila, you are a lot of fun. You know, we’ve had a really, really good time with you tonight. And we are very far away from home, but you’ve made us feel so welcomed. It means the world to us, I don’t wanna repeat myself but, thank you so much. And there’s something that I always want you to know when you come and see us play, which is that we appreciate each and every single one of you for being here.”
The xx ended the night with Angels. And everybody got an idea of what heaven sounded like.
Overall, the show was more than amazing. I was used to singing out loud and/or dancing to the songs, but this time was way more chill because most of us chose to enjoy The xx’s unique combination of dreamy and electronic music.
